What It Is
WINPRO is a line of blood protein supplements for dogs, made with plasma, antibodies, and other blood fractions drawn from pigs.
It may not sound particularly appetizing, but the company claims these blood proteins reduce inflammation and can improve the health of your dog’s joints, gut, skin, and coat.
(WINPRO supplied Keeping It Pawsome with a complimentary supply of its allergy supplements. We are not a member of the company’s affiliate program but are a member of the Amazon affiliate network and do get a tiny percentage of the cost when you buy something.)
How We Use It
Our Labrador Retriever, Sylvie, has mild seasonal allergies, so we decided to try out the Allergy formula to see if we could wean her off the Benadryl she’s been taking.
We gave her two WINPRO chews with breakfast each morning for about a month. (The dose for dogs under 20 pounds is one chew).
Although the WINPRO website promises “a noticeable difference in just a few days,” that wasn’t our experience. The first time we tried to cut down on the Benadryl, which was within the first week of the WINPRO trial, she started scratching all over again and we had to put the Benadryl back into her regimen.
But two weeks later she was off it entirely, with no discernible increase in scratching.
Because we tried the WINPRO between mid-September and mid-October, it’s impossible to know whether Sylvie’s allergies might have improved anyway due to the changing seasons. (We got Sylvie about eight months ago and aren’t yet familiar with the full seasonal pattern of her allergies.)
But the result was promising enough that we’ll probably give her WINPRO again in the spring if she starts getting itchy again.

Pros
Sylvie loves the taste of the chews. She wagged her tail every time she saw them come out of the cabinet and gobbled them right up. (To be fair, that’s her response to most food!)
She also seemed to get more energetic as the trial went on, though again it’s tricky to pinpoint why.
Was it the addition of the WINPRO or just the cessation of the Benadryl, which made her sleepy? Or was it a little bit of both?
We also saw some improvement in the softness of her coat by the end of the month on WINPRO, especially the thicker, coarser hair that runs along her spine.
Cons
WINPRO isn’t cheap. Especially if you have a larger dog and you’re feeding the supplements for extended periods of time.
Additionally, you might not see the results you’re hoping for as quickly as the company promises. For Sylvie, the effects were subtle.
Cost and Where You Can Buy It
On the WINPRO website, supplements start at $12.99 for a trial size of 20 chews, with a variety of sizes going up to 360 chews ($149.99).
WINPRO products are also sold on Amazon, though some items (including the Allergy supplement) are not always available.
