Outback Jack Cat Tent Review

What Is It

The Outback Jack cat tent is a mesh tent designed for indoor cats to be safely outdoors.

How We Use It

We use the Outback Jack cat tent for one of our six cats. A stray who quite literally invited himself into our house many years ago, he enjoys the fresh air and will beg on a nice day to go out. Because we don’t trust humans (and especially humans driving cars), we don’t allow him out on his own.

This tent is a perfect compromise.

We put it toward the back of our driveway so he has a view of our front yard. And because it’s behind a car, people on the street can’t see him. He’ll stay for hours outside on a nice day.

Since we use only use the tent during the late spring and summer we usually throw a towel over the top to provide shade. He can still get fresh air but without this extra cover, it’s often too hot for the tent to be of any use.

Pros

The Outback Jack Happy Habitat Cat Tent offers almost 30 square feet of space. It’s perfect for one or two cats that are content to chill out and watch the world go by. If you have active cats that want to be able to run around, the tent is probably too small.

It’s easy to set up and fold away, and it fits into an easy-to-carry bag — just in case you’re looking to take your cat with you on your next BBQ outing.

Mostly we love it for the safety it provides our cat when he’s out there. He can’t get out and run into the street and we can keep an eye on him, so no one can hurt him.

Cons

Our biggest beef with the Outback Jack Happy Habitat Cat Tent is that the mesh doesn’t hold up well to chewers. (Think rabbits, guinea pigs, or a cat that likes to gnaw his way out.) We start with a brand new tent every May and by August it’s time to throw it out, thanks to the numerous holes our cat has created.

Cost and Where You Can Buy It

The Outback Jack Happy Habitat Cat Tent costs about $45. It can be purchased from Amazon, Chewy, Petco, and other pet retailers.
