Review: Purrs Hare Squidly Didly Wand Attachment

Review: Purrs Hare Squidly Didly Wand Attachment

What Is It

The Purrs Hare Squidly Didly is a wand attachment toy designed to look like a squirrel’s tail.

A hunting toy — ie your cats are meant to chase it, not chew on it — it’s made from long strips of wild hare fur and natural feathers. (All the materials used to create the toy are ethically sourced in Europe and are a by-product of the food industry and would otherwise go into a landfill.)

It can be attached to any wand or pole that has a clip on the end.

The Benefits of Playing with Your Cat

How We Use It

We break out our “squirrel tail” a few times a week to give our cats some exercise and excitement.

It also gives us a great deal of enjoyment, as it is, without a doubt, their favorite toy. Several of our cats will engage in amazing gymnastics while trying to hook their claws into the tail.

Typically, we’ll play for about 20 minutes or until our cats have tired themselves out and only want to play while lying down.

In terms of how we play, we mostly hold it high in the air and let the cats jump for it. But we’ll also drag in along the floor and let them chase after it. Most of the cats prefer the first style of play.

Purrs Hare Squidly Didly: Pros

The Purrs Hare Squidly Didly is a hit in our household.

The realistic nature of the “tail” stirs up their hunting instincts.  In fact, two of our most docile cats turn into ferocious hunters when playing, growling and hissing once they’ve managed to “catch” the tail.

It’s fantastic for getting them engaged — and for tiring them out before bed time.

Purrs Hare Squidly Didly: Cons

Though not a con for us, our cats are never happy when we put the Purrs Hare Squidly Didly away.

Also, one word for those with a mix of older and younger cats.

Our four younger cats go nuts for the squirrel tail, leaving our two older cats, who are interested, out in the cold as they don’t have the same energy. They just can’t compete with the wild jumping and pouncing that the younger cats engage in.

To give them time with the tail we have to separate them in another room for a private play session. It’s a bit inconvenient for us, so it doesn’t happen anywhere near as often as our play sessions with the four others.

Cost and Where You Can Buy It

We purchased our Purrs Hare Squidly Didly from RoarCats.com, but it is also available on Amazon.

The price is $9 to $10.
